LANSING, Mich. — Additional security measures will be taken ahead of Michigan's electoral vote on Monday, according to one elector in Kalamazoo.
Mark Miller, Kalamazoo Township Clerk, says that he received notification that he will be accompanied by a police escort. Miller will be casting the electoral vote for Michigan's 6th District.
When asked to confirm, Michigan State Police would not divulge information regarding security. A public information officer did tell FOX 17 that they will be on standby should they be needed on Monday. There is no previous history of additional security such as this in previous elections.
"I did attend as a guest previously, I should say. That was very different, and there is no such thing. That was at the time of Obama’s reelection 2012," said Miller, who was chosen for the honor due to his longstanding dedication to public service.
Miller says as a clerk, he planned for disruption at polling locations this November.
"Fortunately, nothing came of it, and I'm very happy that that was the case. I believe that this will be the case this time as well," said Miller. "I'm trusting that we will be protected. In any case, we have a duty to do and we are going to carry it out."
The session will begin Monday at 2 p.m. in the Michigan Senate chambers.
