The electors gathered in Lansing on Monday afternoon, with Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist serving as the chair of the 2020 Electoral College vote.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer addressed the electors before the vote.

"The people have spoken. It was a safe, fair and secure election. It was the kind of election our founding fathers envisioned when they created this democracy and built this country,” she said.

Applause broke out in the chamber after the votes were cast for Biden and Harris.

Both the Michigan House and Senate offices were closed based on credible threats of violence. Law enforcement recommended the closure of both buildings.

Biden, who won Michigan by more than 150,000 votes, got all 16 electoral votes. Each state cast its Electoral College votes on Monday.

Now, the votes will be sent to Vice President Mike Pence, who is President of the Senate, and then both chambers of the U.S. Legislature will vote to certify the results on Jan. 6, two weeks before Biden is set to be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.
