A new hotel fraud scam has surfaced in Dundee, according to the Dundee Police Department.

Officers responded to a local hotel Wednesday after a guest reported credit card fraud.

While in his room, the guest said he received a phone call from a caller who identified himself as a hotel representative. The assumed hotel representative said they needed to confirm the guest's credit card information and security code. The guest provided the information.

Shortly after, the guest received texts from his bank alerting him that his credit card was overdrawn due to excessive out-of-state charges.

The guest then realized he shared his personal information with the wrong person and called police and his bank's fraud department.

Police urge neighbors "to use extreme caution when sharing credit card information, as thieves and scammers seem to be getting more creative every day."
