Detroit teacher's assistant caught on video throwing child in classroom

A Detroit teacher's assistant is being punished after being seen on video assaulting a young student.

In the video obtained by 7 Action News, she is seen throwing him twice inside a first grade classroom and screaming at him.

The incident occurred last Wednesday at Thurgood Marshall Elementary on Linwood.

A parent tells us her child witnessed what happened, and recorded the incident on her cell phone. Her child then told her what happened after returning home from school.

The school district refused to talk on camera.

In a statement, the a spokesperson for DPS says they notified the student's parents and took appropriate action to punish the staff member.

In the meantime, the Detroit Public Schools police are investigating the incident. It's unknown what led to the assistant losing control.
