DPD saves brothers who overdosed while driving

Posted

If a few more minutes had passed before Detroit Police Investigators Lee Dyer Sr. and Linda Lawton spotted two men slumped over in a red pickup truck, one or both could have died.

The two men who are brothers, ages 33 and 32, had gotten a dangerous high when they passed out in a turnaround on Eight Mile Road near Groesbeck in Warren.

The men were driving a work truck for Rock Restoration Services and we're told they were supposed to have been working on a porch job in West Bloomfield.

Dyer and Lawton told 7 Action News about the drama that unfolded when they first saw the two men late Thursday morning, and about how one of their colleagues, Det. Tony Cotton, had to administer CPR to the older brother when he stopped breathing.

"He said they were brothers and they shared the syringe full of heroin," Dyer told 7 Action News about his conversation with the younger brother who was in the passenger seat. Police were able to wake him up without first aid.

A sources says the younger brother could be charged with drug possession. He was arrested by Warren Police.

The brother who had been driving was taken to a local hospital. He could be charged with operating under the influence of drugs. The 33-year-old, a parolee, was just released from prison in October after serving time for breaking and entering as well as Larceny.
