Detroit police doing a narcotics sweep spotted a stolen SUV that ended with a crash at the corner of Kelly and Casino on the city's east side.

The vehicle lost control as it turned the corner, clipping a car parked on the street before taking out a nearby fence and crashing into a tree.

R'zaya Turner was inside the house when she heard a loud noise.

"The only thing we heard was boom! So we got up. We looked out the window and there was just a big car that just crashed into our gate and then it hit the tree," she said.

Detroit police said three people in the car were taken into custody. A bag of suspected drugs was found in the vehicle. The chase started on 7 mile and then went down residential streets. Under the circumstances, police said it's fortunate no one was killed.

"There's always a great deal of risk anytime you have individuals driving a stolen car, getting above the speed limit, you know?  You're placing not only themselves in harm's way but our citizens who are driving the streets and those who are actual pedestrians walking the street as well," said Detroit police Capt. Mark Thornton.
