(WXYZ) — Michigan is expected to see a large drop in the doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine next week, state public health officials say.

Lynn Sutfin, a spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, said federal officials told the state next week's shipment of the vaccine will go from 84,000 to 60,000. That's a drop of 29%. The story was first reported by Crain's and later confirmed by the state.

According to Sutfin, the number of vaccines distributed to each state is decided at the federal level.

The first doses of the U.S. vaccine were shipped Sunday from West Michigan and the administered Monday in hospitals across the state.

The state set up a COVID-19 vaccine website which shows as of Dec. 15, there have been 244 doses of the vaccine administered.

So far, 26,235 vaccines have been distributed throughout nearly 300 enrolled COVID-19 vaccine distribution sites.
