LANSING, Mich. — There are now 5,017 deaths from coronavirus in Michigan and 52,350 cases, according to the latest numbers released by the State of Michigan on Thursday.
That's up 435 cases and 102 deaths from Monday, but today's numbers include an additional 43 deaths identified through regular review of death certificates.
28,234 people have recovered from the virus. Those numbers are updated every Saturday and include people who are 30 days out from the onset of symptoms of COVID-19.
The state continues to test more and more people. On Sunday, when testing is usually lower, they still tested 13,539 people.

The numbers come one day after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Whitmer announced that the U.P. and Traverse City areas – Regions 6 & 8 – could partially reopen starting Friday. That includes bars and restaurants, retail shops, offices and more.
Speaking to 7 Action News Tuesday, she said she hopes to open up more of the state soon.
"My hope is that we can transition other sections of the state from phase three to phase four in the coming days and weeks," Whitmer said.
Dr. Joneigh Khaldun also said the state continues to increase its testing as the numbers continue to go down. Over the last three days, they have tested more than 15,000 people each day.
