Michigan reports lowest increase in coronavirus deaths and cases in nearly 3 months

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan reported just two new coronavirus deaths and 74 new cases, bringing the total to 60,064 cases and 5,772 deaths.

The increase in deaths was the lowest since March 21, according to numbers from the state, just 11 days after the first confirmed cases in the state.

The increase in cases is also the lowest since March 18, when the number of new cases was at 15. The next day, it spiked to 254.

Nearly 45,000 people have recovered from the virus, according to the state.

Also, the number of active cases is at 9,300, the second-lowest since the beginning of April.

Barbershops, salons, tattoo shops and more personal services opening on Monday, the latest of businesses to reopen more than 3 months after the outbreak began. Most of Michigan is in phase 4 but regions 6 and 8 are in phase 5.
