LANSING, Mich. — The state is reporting 69,338 cases of COVID-19 and 6,068 deaths, according to numbers released Sunday.
On Saturday, the state reported 653 new cases, and 28 new deaths. Sunday's single-day, daily count is down 263 cases from the day before.
Case numbers continue to rise in Michigan. Some areas are seeing higher numbers than others.
Dr. Khaldun noted that the Detroit, Lansing and Kalamazoo regions have over 20 cases per million people per day. Additionally, the Upper Peninsula is now seeing the highest rate of cases seen throughout the entire pandemic.
Dr. Khaldun said locations associated with outbreaks include food processing plants, bars, casinos, religious gatherings and congregate care facilities. There is also evidence of general community spread.
The state is continuing to increase testing, but she notes that increased testing is not the only reason for the increase in cases. The percent of tests done that are coming back positive slowly increased from 2 to 3 percent, which implies that the state is also seeing increases in cases because there is true spread.
