Michigan reports 389 new cases of COVID-19, fifth straight day of increase

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan reported 389 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, the fifth straight day of an increase in new cases. There was also one new death reported.

According to the state, there are now 62,695 total cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak began and 5,888 deaths.

On Thursday, the state reported 353 new cases of the virus and 323 new cases on Wednesday. These numbers are the highest since May 31, when there were 513 new cases.
The number of recoveries is near 50,000, and that number will be updated on Saturday.

According to the COVID Act Now map, Michigan is no longer on track to contain the virus, and is instead in the "controlled disease growth" area. "COVID in Michigan is spreading in a slow and controlled fashion," the website said.
