Michigan reports 17,162 new cases of COVID-19 over 2-day period, 172 deaths

LANSING, Mich. — The State of Michigan reported 17,162 new cases of COVID-19 and 172 deaths from the virus over a 2-day period this week.

That brings the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 341,941 and the total number of deaths to 8,933.

The total number of cases represents the total reported to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services since Wednesday, as numbers weren't reported on Thursday. Over the two-day period, the average number of new cases is 8,581 per day. The deaths also include 108 deaths identified during a vital records review.

Michigan also has around 180,700 active cases of the virus, the most since the pandemic began. The number of active cases has risen steadily over the past month. On Oct. 27, there were 42,100 active cases of COVID-19.
