Michigan reports 1,601 new COVID-19 cases, 221 additional deaths

(WSYM) — There are now 548,069 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan, the state reported Saturday.

Additionally, there have been 14,291 deaths from the virus statewide. That's up 1,601 cases and 221 deaths since Friday. The total number of deaths includes 205 identified during a vital records review.

Michigan's COVID-19 case rates have plateaued for the third week in a row, according to data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Per the CDC COVID Data Tracker, Michigan has the 23rd highest number of cases and the 14th highest number of deaths.

Percent positivity is at 7.6%, which is decreasing after a week of increase; testing has also increased.

As of Jan. 22, the state records 463,106 COVID recoveries.
