Michigan reports 1,485 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths

(WXYZ) — Michigan reported 1,485 new COVID-19 cases and 3 deaths Monday, according to numbers released by the state.

The two-day total of newly reported cases averages out to approximately 742 a day.

There have been a total of 581,403 cases and 15,362 deaths in the state. In addition, the state reports another 56.525 probable cases of the virus and another 981 deaths that are probably related to the virus.

Cases are currently down 85% from the mid-November peak in Michigan. Overall, 3.5% of tests are coming back positive; this number has been declining for five weeks.

Additionally, 5.2% of hospital beds are being used to treat COVID patients, down 79% from the peak in late fall.

State officials say these are "encouraging trends" that have Michigan moving in the right direction.

The state reported a total 529,080 recoveries.
