(WSYM) — Michigan reported 1,193 new COVID-19 cases and 23 deaths Friday, according to numbers released by the state.

There have been 579,294 cases and 15,296 deaths in the state.

Cases are currently down 85% from the mid-November peak in Michigan. Overall, 3.5% of tests are coming back positive; this number has been declining for five weeks.

Additionally, 5.2% of hospital beds are being used to treat COVID patients, down 79% from the peak in late fall.

State officials say these are "encouraging trends" that have Michigan moving in the right direction.
