The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced Sunday night it is suspending all fall tournaments and winter sports during the state's 3-week pause with rising COVID-19 cases.

According to the MHSAA, the scheduled playoff and tournament games for girls volleyball, girls swimming & diving and football will be stopped during the pause.
There was one week left for volleyball and swimming and diving tournaments, and the football finals were down to the final three rounds.

On top of that, all winter practices and sports that were scheduled to begin over the next three weeks will be paused.

"We understand the need for action, and we will explore all options to complete our Fall tournaments when restrictions are lifted," MHSAA Executive Director Mark Uyl said. "We will assess everything over the next three weeks relative to Fall and Winter sports and come up with a plan that keeps us connected to our goal, for months, of having three seasons that are played to their conclusions.”
On Sunday, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert Gordon issued an epidemic order that the state called a "3-week pause," and included the closure of in-person dining services, movie theatres, casinos and more. It also suspended all non-professional and college athletics.
