(WXYZ) — The U.S. hit another grim milestone in the Coronavirus pandemic for the month of December.

More than 77,500 people lost their lives in the final month of 2020, according to Johns Hopkins University. The virus has killed more than 346,000 people in the U.S.

The state of Michigan's COVID-19 Dashboard for December reports more than 1,800 deaths through Dec. 27. New COVID-19 data will be released on Jan. 2.

More healthcare workers in the state are rolling up their sleeves as the vaccine rollout continues. Some of them are sharing on social media the reason why they wanted to get vaccinated.

The distribution of vaccines will first go to frontline health workers, then residents and staff at long-term health care facilities. The vaccines will then be distributed to essential workers and people of high-risk.
