LANSING, Mich. — Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun will provide an update regarding the state’s response efforts to COVID-19.

The press conference is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday.

As of Friday morning, there are 90,392 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Michigan and 6,289 deaths.

The state announced 1,121 new cases – the highest one-day case total in almost three months – and 16 deaths; 9 of those deaths were identified during a Vital Records review.

The governor's office said every region in Michigan has seen an uptick in new cases over the past several weeks, and daily case counts in late July exceeded 50 cases per million statewide.
