Several metro Detroit hospitals running low on personal protection equipment, Whitmer says

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer updated the state's response to COVID-19 during a press conference at on Monday morning.

She was joined by MDHHS Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun.

As of Sunday, there were 617 deaths and 15,718 cases of COVID-19 in the state, which puts Michigan third on the list of most cases and deaths in the United States. Only New York and New Jersey have more cases than Michigan.

Whitmer talked about FEMA sending more N95 masks to metro Detroit this week, and also talked about the things FEMA has already sent.

She also updated the state's response to unemployment, saying that more people applied in the last two weeks than did in all of 2019.

According to Whitmer, several hospital systems in metro Detroit are running low on masks, face shields and gowns.
