Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will provide an update on the increasing COVID-19 cases in the state and the state's response on Wednesday afternoon.

WATCH LIVE HERE AT 1:30 P.M.

Whitmer will be joined by Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun.

The press conference comes as cases continue to rise in Michigan. Last week, the state set a record number of daily cases with more than 2,000, and the state's average case count over the past week is also the highest it has been since the pandemic began.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there are 149,392 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Michigan and 7,053 deaths from the virus.
