LANSING, Mich. — Employees from LCC’s Health and Human Services Division (HHS) sprang into action upon hearing about the shortages of medical supplies at Sparrow Hospital, McLaren Hospital, and the Lansing Fire Department.

When the college moved to an online-only learning environment March 18, the HHS Division realized the excess supplies that the college cannot use this semester could be used by our medical and first responder heroes as they work to keep us safe.

They were able to donate more than 60,000 gloves, nearly 8,000 face masks, disposable gowns, hundreds of bottles of hand sanitizer, and other essential supplies.

“As a community college, we exist to serve the members of this community,” said Elizabeth Burger Associate Dean HHS Division. “So when we heard about the shortage of PPE for our area healthcare providers, we recognized a community need that we were uniquely positioned to address. While our mission is typically to educate, we know that donating these essential supplies will serve a higher mission of protecting health and saving lives.

The team working to gather and distribute the supplies from LCC included Burger, Margie Clark, Linda Koning, Jeremy O’Malley, Mari Croze, and volunteer Pastor Norm Burger, Elizabeth’s husband.
