Start of school setbacks are impacting virtual learning as thousands of grade-school students adjust to online education from home. School districts across mid-Michigan are still working a lot of the bugs out, as parents try and help their kids as best they can.
Parent Damon Bluemenstein has a 1st and 3rd grader in Walled Lake, and says settings on Google Chromebooks provided by the district hasn’t allowed for full use of Zoom needed for communication.
“It’s a problem we first noticed last year,” Damon said.
On our Facebook page, we asked more parents to tell us how their kids' virtual learning experiences went today. From Clarkston to Livonia, we received more reports of Zoom troubles, password issues and other glitches.
Walled Lake Consolidated Schools wrote in a statement:
"Walled Lake Schools apologizes for the technical issues we had today with sound issues and other tech difficulties with Zoom links. We have been made aware that this is a broader issue than just Walled Lake and that due to increased demand with many schools starting their first day today, there were issues with Zoom.
Families using both the District-issued Chromebooks as well as their own personal devices are reporting similar issues. The WLCSD IT department is working to help support issues that we can. These issues are not solely due to District-issued student devices.
