Governor Gretchen Whitmer extended the on-going emergency and disaster declaration for the state of Michigan because of the coronavirus.

The 151st executive order of 2020 will allow the Governor to continue to issue orders connected to the COVID-19 pandemic. The emergency declaration is now set to expire at the end of August 11.

“COVID-19 has now killed more than 6,000 people in Michigan. That’s more than 6,000 of our parents, grandparents, friends, and neighbors. And the rising numbers we’ve seen over the past few weeks prove that this virus is still a very real threat in our state,” said Whitmer in a release.

The Governor cited increased counts of new coronavirus cases in several regions in lower Michigan.
