(WXYZ) — More shipments of the Pfizer vaccine are making their way around the country, and here in Michigan for frontline healthcare workers Tuesday morning.

On Monday, healthcare workers at two Michigan hospitals got their first dose of the shot — at the University of Michigan and Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids.

Staff at Henry Ford told 7 Action News its first vaccine shipment for frontline workers could arrive between Tuesday and Wednesday. Already Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor has received 2,000 doses of the vaccine, granted emergency use by the FDA late last week.

The frontline workers first to be vaccinated will get the second shot in 21 days. Those getting the vaccine can expect some discomfort from the needle and will be monitored for about 15 minutes or longer if they’ve had an allergic reaction in the past to other medical products.

Statewide, 85,000 doses are expected in this first round of shipments. After frontline healthcare workers and nursing home residents are vaccinated, workers in certain essential industries will be next in line.

The Ascension Hospital system is still narrowing down when its first shipment will arrive. It likely won’t be until March that the average Michigander has access to the vaccine.
