The Barry-Eaton District Health Department provided a grim update on COVID-19 Wednesday night, urging residents to take every necessary precaution against the virus.

The update was announced on BEDHD’s Facebook page. They say twenty-eight people have died since March, with twelve of those deaths occurring within the last eleven days alone.

Both counties have had 1,000 positive cases in the last two weeks, health officials say, adding that 1 in 250 Barry County residents had positive test results in the last week. They say they are unable to keep up with contacting infected residents or their close contacts.

“We are urging people to redouble your efforts,” says BEDHD. “Stay home as much as possible, wear a mask, social distance, and don’t hang out, dine out, or work out with those you don’t live with.”

Residents who test positive or are a close contact of someone who tested positive are encouraged to visit BEDHD’s website.
