The Gerald R Ford International Airport is still open to fly essential personnel and equipment to and from where they are needed, but that only accounts for a small percentage of travel normally going through their doors this time of year.
Tara Hernandez, Marketing and Communications Director at Gerald R Ford International Airport, tells FOX 17 the 95% decrease has been seen in business and recreational travel.
There aren't a whole lot of places maybe where you're going necessarily open. If you're just taking a vacation, we ask that you rethink that," Hernandez suggested. "If you're flying for essential business, make sure you're following the CDC guidelines."
The Federal government granted the airport $16 million to help make up for some of that lost revenue. Hernandez says it may take months, but she is confident the airport will recover.
