The number of active cases of COVID-19 are up 375% in the last six weeks, according to data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
On Friday, the State of Michigan reported 17,162 new cases of COVID-19 and 172 deaths from the virus over a 2-day period, bringing the total number of cases of COVID-19 to 341,941 and the total number of deaths to 8,933.
As of Friday, Nov. 27, there were around 180,700 active cases of the virus. On Oct. 23, there were 38,000 cases.
According to the data, as of Nov. 27, 53% of the total cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began are active cases.
Hospitalizations continue to rise. In the same 6-week time period, they are up 228%, from 1,241 on Oct. 23 to 4,068 on Nov. 27.
