43,207 cases, 4,020 deaths of coronavirus confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — There are now 3,866 confirmed deaths and 42,356 cases of coronavirus in Michigan, according to the latest numbers released by the state on Friday afternoon.

That's up 77 deaths and 977 cases from Thursday when there were 3,789 deaths and 41,379 confirmed cases.

8,342 have recovered from the virus, according to the state. Those numbers are updated every Saturday, with the latest numbers coming tomorrow. Recovery includes confirmed COVID-19 cases who are 30 days out from their onset, but the pool will expand as the pandemic continues.

On Thursday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed three new executive orders declaring a new state of emergency and state of disaster in Michigan until May 28 at 11:59 p.m.

Hundreds of people showed up to the Capitol building in Lansing to protest on Thursday.

Later in the day, the Republican-led State House refused to extend the state of emergency and also voted to authorize a lawsuit challenging Whitmer's authority.
