LANSING, Mich. — There are now 2,813 deaths and 33,966 cases of coronavirus in Michigan, according to new numbers released by the state on Wednesday afternoon.
That's up 999 cases and 113 deaths from 2,700 deaths and 32,967 cases which were announced on Tuesday. The increase in deaths Tuesday – 235 – included 95 deaths that were previously not reported but did not happen the day before.

Detroit and Wayne County still have the highest number of cases in the state, followed by Oakland and Macomb counties.
While Michigan has fallen out of the top 5 in the number of cases, it still ranks third in the number of deaths behind New York and New Jersey, according to the latest number from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
3,237 people have recovered from the virus, the state said. The recovery numbers are updated every Saturday. The state defines recovery as the number of people with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days after onset.
On Tuesday, Whitmer said on a live video with The Washington Post that the stay-at-home order will continue in "some form." The order expries on May 1.
“For some, we will continue to be in the posture that we are currently in," Whitmer said. "For others, we will start to ramp up a bit where it is lower risk and where we think we can do so safely without risking a second wave of COVID-19."
