Planes carrying Congress members to Former Congressman John Dingell's funeral in Michigan were forced to turn around Tuesday morning.
An impromptu service was held on a plane at 30,000 feet for Dingell, according to Rep. Billy Long. The service was led by Rep. John Lewis, Rep. Fred Upton and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The planes had to turn back and return to D.C. because weather conditions made it unsafe to land at Detroit Metro Airport.
We held an impromptu service at 30,000 feet for @JohnDingell lead by @repjohnlewis @SpeakerPelosi and @RepFredUpton After a delayed start we took off for #Detroit & circled there for an hour waiting for the temperature to rise one degree. It didn’t and we’re back at @Andrews_JBA
