A name suggestion committee has decided on its top choice for potentially replacing Flint Township's name.

The Flint Journal (http://bit.ly/2nna05X ) reports the committee selected the name Carman Hills as its top pick among over 100 submitted monikers, with Garland as a close second. The committee was formed last year and has been deliberating the submitted names for the last few months.

Flint Township resident Melba Lewis says that the name Carman is significant because Elijah Carman was one of the area's founders.

The top 10 name picks are among many recommendations that the committee will present as part of a five-page report to the township board during the April 3 board meeting.

The committee will also be seeking a change in the recognition of zip codes during the meeting.
