The Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in Detroit was evacuated Monday morning and will now be closed for the rest of the day.
Police say they received a report of a person with a gun in the building.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig says a man, believed to be in his 40s wearing a suit, passed through the security checkpoint with a possible handgun. We're told by the time security officers realized there might be a gun in the man's bag, he was already out of view.
Craig says it's also possible the man left the building with evacuees.
Police are now sweeping the building floor-by-floor.
