Wayne County health officials have confirmed a case of Hepatitis A in a food service worker at a Plymouth restaurant.
According to the Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness (HVCW), the case was found in a worker at Omelette and Waffle Café, 580 Forest Ave.
The restaurant was inspected on Tuesday, Sept. 11, and is open for business. The business is working with health officials during the investigation, and employees at the facility were vaccinated as well.
People who ate at the Omelette and Waffle Café between Aug. 17 and Sept. 4 should get vaccinated by Sept. 18 to prevent getting the disease, according to health officials.
The best way to prevent the spread of Hepatitis A is by:
- Getting your Hepatitis A vaccine
- Always wash your hands with soap and water after using the bathroom or changing a diaper
- Thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water during food preparation and before eating food
- Avoiding undercooked or raw shellfish
- Not preparing food for others if you are ill
According to health officials, Hep A is a preventable disease, and if the vaccine or immunoglobulin is administered within 14 days of exposure, the illness can be prevented.
