Detroit police are investigating after a man was shot in the buttocks while trying to run away from a carjacker Sunday night.

Police say the victim is in serious condition. They are still searching for the suspect.

The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Cornwall and Yorkshire on this city's east side.

Police say the 22-year-old victim was house-hunting with a woman and a child at the time of the incident. They say the man was outside his 2006 silver Pontiac Grand Prix when the gunman approached him.

The victim tried to run away and that's when he was shot in the buttocks, according to police.

The gunman then reportedly allowed the woman to remove the child before driving off in the car.

The woman and child were not harmed.
