Can You Really Build a House Watching YouTube How-To Videos?

and last updated

You may have watched a how-to video on YouTube before, but one woman took that idea to the extreme and built a house with the help of her four children and thousands of YouTube tutorials. Donna Ruko has more on how Cara Brookins actually pulled it off.

Here are Cara’s three tips if you want to try and build your dream home using YouTube:

1.  Set Big Goals

Set that enormous goal and take a big leap. You must forget all that baby step stuff that you've always heard and then stay determined to reach it. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and believe you can reach it. Cara built a house that was 3,500 square feet and five bedrooms!

2.  Don’t Make ‘Plan B’

You have to believe in very boldly, declaring your goals and not declaring another plan if things don’t work out. Cara had spent all of their money on bricks, nails, wood and from that point forward she had no choice. And with short-term 9 month construction loan there wasn't time for a backup.

3.  Find Strength in Family

Cara is a computer programmer and could not carry a sheet of plywood unless one of her children was on the other side of it. In the end it taught them all confidence and gave them the power to never give up.
