Thinking about cutting your cable cord? If you're overwhelmed by the alternative choices and plans out there for all your streaming needs, you've come to the right place. Jimmy Rhoades talked to Consumer Reports editor, Jim Willcox, to help break down all the cord cutting options waiting for you, so, that you can make the right choice.
1. Streaming TV Services
These services are like smaller traditional cable packages you're used to, except you can stream them on your various devices: your phone, computer, even a gaming system if you have one. This way, you can still say goodbye to cable fees and high prices, while still getting the same kind of entertainment you would with a cable company - only you've got more cash in your pocket.
Try checking out services like Sling TV, YouTube TV, Playstation Vue, which would run you just up to around $40 per month. Willcox also recommends Philo, the cheapest streaming tv service on the market right now, that'll cost just $16 per month, where you'll get anywhere between 40-50 of your favorite channels.
2. Pay Just for the Channels You Want
If you know you watch just a few shows on specific networks, you can cut the cord and buy only the channels you love and watch. For HBO fans, you don't need cable to enjoy your favorite shows - you can grab HBO Now for around $14.99 per month. There are also similar programs for CBS, and some shows also have their own free apps that let you watch your favorite shows right on the app or its site.
3. Self-Bundle Services
These on-demand services, Like Netflix or Hulu, only require a broadband connection for you to enjoy your favorite shows. So, if you already have an internet connection, you're halfway there. And if your internet is bundled with your cable, you can cut the cord, and pay less on your bill by only having internet, then getting your TV show fixes with a self-bundle service.
