Detroit police are investigating after a burning body was discovered in the street around 11 p.m.

We're told firefighters had to be called to extinguish the flames. Police say the body was burned beyond recognition and the race and gender are not known. The medical examiner is now working to identify the person.

The body was found in front of a vacant building in the 8800 block of Moffat. That's near Gratiot and Warren Avenue.

Our camera crew spotted charred debris along the curb and in the grass.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen or heard something to step forward.
