Devin Carter is 6th grader at Mt. Hope STEAM Magnet School in Lansing.
She has been dancing most of her life and enjoys several different disciplines including: ballet, hip hop, lyrical and tap. She is currently a member of Children’s Ballet Theatre of Michigan and hopes to one day own her own dance studio.
The persona of modern ballerinas is changing greatly with help from dancers like Misty Copeland, Raven Wilkinson, Lauren Anderson, and Aesha Ash. Body type and skin color are no longer obstacles in many predominant ballet companies.
“Representation is important in life. Seeing me dance may inspire other young black girls to dance,” Devin said.
She is excited to share dance with others who may be afraid to try something new.
