The Belle Isle Conservancy announced Wednesday that it will receive a $1.7 million grant from the William Davidson Foundation.
The grant will be received over a three-year period and will support the restoring and modernizing of the Belle Isle Aquarium.
“The investment from the William Davidson Foundation is a huge milestone in the Belle Isle Conservancy’s journey to bring back the historic Belle Isle Aquarium to its former glory and to secure additional resources for our island jewel,” says Michele Hodges, President of the Belle Isle Conservancy.
The foundation's gift was awarded back in 2017.
Since then, the Conservancy has began critical infrastructure repairs and implemented engineering studies.
Earlier this year, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix announced it would dedicate $400,000 from the Detroit Grand Prixmiere this year for improvements to the Scott Fountain.
The State of Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources started managing the City-owned park in 2014.
