Beaumont Health is looking to bring on-board a few hundred salaried General Motors Co. workers that were laid off earlier this month.
The hospital reportedly has 500 non-clinical job openings available and has had discussions with GM to inform the former employees about the openings.
"There is absolutely a war on talent right now, combined with an unemployment rate under 4 percent in Michigan, that creates problems," Beaumont's chief of human resources Aaron Gillingham told The Detroit News . "This is an opportunity for us to go out into the market and get good talent much more quickly."
GM responded to Beaumont's initiative with this statement:
"We’re pleased there are companies eager to begin the interview process and fill openings."
Beaumont currently employs 38,000 people and is one of the largest health systems in the state.
