It's back to school time and an important time to remind everyone about food safety.
Parents tend to worry more about if the food in their kids' lunchbox gets eaten than if the food was prepared safely.
To make sure lunches and school snacks are safe for those you pack for, the USDA says to follow these 4 steps:
The USDA says that there are an estimated 42,000 annual reports of Salmonella infections and that 50% of those are infants and school-age-children.
When packing lunches, always pack 2 cold sources with lunch to keep them safe.
Perishable food packed without a cold source won't stay cold for very long and may spoil before lunch time which could cause illness.
They also recommend to clean those lunch boxes after each use. The USDA says to use hot, soapy water or a disinfectant wipe.
