Deangelo Davis has walked out of the Wayne County Jail after all charges against him were dropped in connection to the murder of Wayne State University Sgt. Collin Rose.

Davis was released around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. He only said "I'm still innocent" as he walked out the jailhouse door.

Deangelo Davis was originally charged in the case. Sources tell 7 Action News surveillance video shows Davis was in a store at the time of the murder.

His attorney, Nicole James, has issued the following statement about the dropping of the charges:

My client and I, like the rest of the community are saddened by the death of Wayne State University Public Safety Officer Sgt. Collin Rose. As a daughter of a veteran Detroit Police Officer I understand and appreciate how they risk their lives protecting our community. The murder of Sgt. Rose was a tragic loss to the community and law enforcement, but it was also wrong to snatch Mr. DeAngelo Davis off the street and try this case in the media despite a lack of evidence connecting him to the crime. The rush to judgment by the Detroit Police Department, Wayne State Public Safety and the Prosecutor’s Office resulted in Mr. Davis being vilified and his reputation sullied by both the national and local media. As a former assistant prosecutor in Wayne County for more than 15 years I respect the role the police have in our community but I also respect the criminal process. And in the case of Mr. Davis, law enforcement officials dropped the ball. Mr. Davis will be holding a news conference at a later date.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Detroit Field Division is offering a $15,000 reward with the help of Detroit Dog Rescue for any information leading to an arrest in this case.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced that the charges will be dropped in a Wednesday morning news conference.

7 Action News spoke with his mother, Valerie, Tuesday night. She told us the person who killed Rose needs to be in jail.

"I'm 100% confident my son had nothing to do with it, cause he's not that type of young man," Davis said.

She also said she loves her son, and wants him to come home.

Detroit Police Union President Mark Diaz responded to the report.

"We have a cop killer who's on the loose and that's scary. And you know our officers work in conjunction with other law enforcement entities are doing everything possible to find that suspect to get him off the street," Diaz said.
