Posted
and last updated

Hackers are out there praying on vulnerable computers and shutting them down with software called ransomware, then asking for money to get them back up and running. Jimmy Rhoades met up with Data Doctors'Ken Colburn to get four important tips to protect our gadgets from these types of attacks.

1.  It's Software, Not Superman

Don't get that false sens of security just because you purchased a security program. There's always a new threat popping up and that software won't work against it.

2.  Run the Updates

Most newer machines allow you to update automatically. Just double check that you're doing that.

3.  Back That Thang Up

The easiest thing to set up is an online backup service. Your information will all be somewhere that ransomware can't get to.

4.  Free Recovery

The cyber security community has come together to try and put an end to ransomware. They are offering free tools to try and help people. If you do fall victum, head to NoMoreRansom.org. It's completely free.
