DETROIT (WXYZ) — Whipping up dinner and sharing it with his family is one of 14-year-old Asher’s dreams. The eighth grader who is currently in foster care hopes to be adopted soon.

“I am a very good cook and a very good baker. I like to make meatballs, and I eat them by themselves. And there's a special way that I make them up. I take ground beef. I put basil parsley, dill, some beef broth, and then I fry it with some olive oil,” Asher explained.

Culinary school may be in his future.

“Yes, I would like to be a chef. I would like to work in an Italian or Dutch restaurant,” he said.

But acknowledge that he’s also interested in engineering since science is his favorite subject in school.

“I would like to be a mechanical engineer. I want to become a mechanical engineer so I can fly the hover motorcycle. It would be powered by jet propulsion,” said Asher.

He said his best friend would describe him as joyful, cheery, and funny.

“I like to ride bikes, play with Legos,” he said. “I like to play video games like just dance and pirates of the Caribbean. I just think that SpongeBob is a hilarious character overall. It's just a funny show.”

He would like to live in a city because he said he’s used to being in a city.

But what he really wants is to find a future family.

“I would like to live with a kind, nurturing family, just giving me attention.”

Asher has been waiting to be adopted since February of 2020.
