Detroit Police are trying to figure out how a 13-year-old boy got his hands on a gun, and ended up killing a 14-year-old boy on the city's east side Tuesday night.

Family members tell us 14-year-old Fred Austin was shot and killed behind a vacant home on Radnor around 7:30 pm.

Investigators don't know if there was a fight that led to the shooting or if it was accidental.

The 13-year-old was taken into custody and the weapon has been recovered at the scene.

Austin's uncle told us, "Never in a million years did I think I would be standing here talking to about this. Parents teach your kids about guns, please."

Chief James Craig was on scene for a while, meeting with the victim's family.

The scene was emotionally charged, with family and friends screaming in agony when learning about the news.
