ST. JOHNS, Mich. — The annual Mint Festival returned to downtown St. Johns this year, marking the first time in several years the event has been held in its original location.

Organizers said the central location allows for a more connected event and brings foot traffic to small businesses in the area.
Residents weigh in on the move
Longtime St. Johns resident Russell Kioski said the return downtown was the right decision.
"I've been coming ever since it started," Kioski said. He added that the move honors both the history of the festival and the community.
Not all attendees agreed. Linda Starrak said the previous location had advantages.
"Well in the park it's shaded. It's a lot more area. There's a lot more space for the kids to just run. And here, it's cement. It's not hot today, but normally it's super hot," Starrak said.
Pride in the mint industry
Despite differing opinions on the venue, attendees shared a common appreciation for the mint industry's legacy in the region.
"I am very proud that we produced most of the mint in the world. It's good. I think it should be known that we are a mint producing state," Kioski said.
