Last year, 11 traffic crashes over the 4th of July weekend resulted in 12 Deaths. To help reduce this number, the Michigan State Police is once again launching Operation C.A.R.E.

C.A.R.E. stands for Combined Accident Reduction Effort, and the initiative  is to reduce traffic fatalities and injuries. The main focuses of the operation include aggressive driving, impaired driving and failure to use seat belts.

“As part of Operation C.A.R.E. and the summer-long statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over drunk driving crackdown, troopers will take a zero-tolerance approach to motorists who are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, are unbelted or exhibiting other dangerous driving behaviors,” stated Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the MSP in a release.

The official holiday weekend begins at 6 p.m. Friday, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Monday.
