Big colorful balloons will take to the skies over Lansing this weekend as the Greater Lansing Balloon Festival kicks off Friday at the Hope Sports Complex.

Organizers are expecting upwards of 25,000 people, that's five times bigger than last year's crowd.

The two day festival got started Friday morning with a media launch. The first official launch is set for Friday night at 6:30. The plan is to have balloon launches again Saturday morning and evening. Both days pilots will even light up their balloons for a night glow.

Balloons are just part of the festival. There's a 5K that's happening Friday night, as well as crafts, inflatables, a balloon walk and various vendors.

Admission is $10 a car and all proceeds will go towards the Lansing Promise scholarship program.

With the balloon launches weather dependent, organizers say they'll post updates on their Facebook and website.
