While the fireworks and burn bans in some communities put a damper on the holiday, firefighters say they were absolutely necessary.
Assistant Delhi Fire Chief Brad Drury says if they did allow fireworks crews would spend most of the holiday chasing fires.
"It ties up a lot of resources for the local fire departments running around chasing this" Drury explained. "If we have multiple going on at the same time, it really taxes our resources."
Residue from fireworks can ignite brush fires which can quickly spread due to wind and dry conditions.
Drury says most Delhi residents have been respectful of that fireworks ban.
