A digital detox is a period where you put away all your devices to enjoy some quality time together with friends and family. It may sound counter intuitive, but there are actually gadgets that can help. Kristina Guerrero has three options to take a break from your tech.
This is a device that wants to make app-free areas in your home. When you're friends with someone on the Ransomly app you can block and send a ransom note with that block. You place this Bluetooth beacon on the dinner table, bed room, car, any place you want to make cellphone free and select apps you'd like to block. You can preorder one for $35 and they will ship this March.
2. Aries Bracelet
Made by Ringly, this one aims to stop phubbing, or phone snubbing, by alerting you of important calls, texts or emails with a gentle vibration and subtle color-coded light. Their app lets you set up who you get notifications from so you can ignore your phone during dinner or, grab it if it's something important. Pick one up for around $245 . Bonus, it does double-duty as a fit bit, tracking steps, distance, and calories burned all while staying stylish.
This is a hand held cellphone detector that many institutions use to enforce a no phone policy. Teachers and professors of universities and colleges can detect and locate students cheating with their mobile phones during their exams. You could use it at the dinner table against a phone smuggling suspect or at an "unplugged wedding" which are becoming more common nowadays. Pick one up for $500 .
